Covid Classics

During COVID-19 pandemic in the Spring 2020, the whole world was put on a lockdown (I am writing this when we still are in it). People have been searching for ways to relieve the pressure and anxiety, do something creative and fun. One such idea was proposed by Getty Center on their Instagram feed: they challenged their followers to reenact classical paintings or sculptures at home (conforming to social distancing guidelines) and photograph them. This challenge was quickly replicated by other venues and spread like a forest fire. One particularly active, mostly Russian-speaking Facebook group called “IsoIsolation” (‘Iso’ roughly means ‘Art’ in Russian) gathered more than half a million members and featured thousands of entries every day. I decided to take part in this craze. With the help of my mom (who stayed with us during tis time and was my main model)  and my wife (who was my costume designer) we created a few such reenactments.
