Death valley, its gruesome name notwithstanding, is one of the most wondrous and geologically diverse places to see, bare none. Colorful mountains, badlands, dunes, oases, hot springs, narrow canyons, arches, mysterious moving rocks, etc. Very much worth a multi-day trip. In winter. It is brutally hot in summer, or so they say, since I did not dare to check. But in winter, it is beautiful, and temperatures are mild. If anything, it can be cold and windy sometimes.
